Sesame Crop

Planting Sesame

sesame1The Luling Foundation has a contract to grow different varieties of sesame by a company called Sesaco. Sesame is very drought tolerant, so the Farm decided to demonstrate the possibilities of growing this as an alternate crop.

On May 20, 2011, The Luling Foundation planted 60 acres of several different types of sesame on the West End of the farm.

After the sesame plants stop blooming, it will be 50 - 60 days until the crop is ready to harvest. A regular combine will be used to harvest the crop.
